• Professor accounts; these are used by professors to test out the website and to register their classes.
• Student accounts; these are used by students to participate in the trading challenge, and are subject to a one-time fee.
• Individual investor accounts; which are for all other users and are subject to a monthly recurring fee.

Stock-Trak executes all North American stocks, options, and future orders at real time prices. Mutual funds and bonds are executed at end of day prices while trades from international stocks are delayed 15-30 minutes. Since the markets close at 4 pm ET., trades made after that time will be executed at the opening price of the next trading day. Please note that although trades are executed at real time prices, and that the bid and ask prices are real time; the prices you see in your open positions are delayed by 10–15 minutes.

You can most stocks listed on the NYSE, AMEX or NASDAQ, and OTCBB (excluding pink sheets) as well as stocks on most foreign markets such as Bombay, Brazil, Euronext, Frankfort, Hong Kong, Ireland, Kuala Lumpur, London, Milan, Mexico, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sidney, Canada, Taiwan, Vienna and Zurich. Stock-Trak also trades all stock options, mutual funds and the most popular corporate bonds, treasury bonds, index options, and commodities, index, and foreign currency futures. For example, the foreign currency futures we trade are the Yen, Pound, Mark, Mexican Peso, Canadian Dollar and Swiss Franc. The only variable you can change from your account is your password. In order to do that you need to log in to your account, click on contact us and then on edit password. In order to change other details please contact our support team through the form found under the contact us tab. Students with student accounts, please note that we cannot change the tournament you are registered in, so please make sure you register to the correct class.

Yes. Each day we receive an updated list of stocks that have split or have paid a dividend. The dividends and splits are then accounted for on the website.

Registration is easy. You simply register yourself as a professor first, then log in to the professor account and create your class. You will be asked to fill out a form with the class name, and different parameters such as type of service, initial cash balance, position limit, and allowed securities to trade. Once you complete the registration process you will receive a confirmation email with a link. We ask professors to provide this link to their students as this is the easiest way for them to register. All the students need to do is click on the link and it will take them to the appropriate registration page, where they can fill out their personal information and submit the registration. The length of the trading period is up to you. We recommend that the trading period begin one or two weeks after your classes have started, and that it ends at least one week before your last class. This will give your students some time to write a summary of their portfolio strategy/return.

Yes. We want Stock-Trak to be as close to the stock market as possible. Individual investors’ accounts carry a commission of $25. Student accounts have a default commission of $25 but can be changed by the professor when registering. Trades on mutual funds carry no commissions.

Each student account can only be linked to one class and one tournament. Once that tournament ends the account is frozen and cannot be used for trading. Therefore, student accounts cannot be linked to any other accounts and the tournament registered to cannot be changed.

We actively encourage professors to personally participate in Stock-Trak. Professors get a number of free accounts after registering their class. The professor account is used to register your class and to view your students’ progress, while the class account (which is in the name of the class) can be used to trade and be ranked among your students. Professors often use this account as a benchmark for students to compare their returns to that account.

Professors are finding that Stock-Trak can play an integral role in the success of their class. Stock-Trak allows you to blend classroom theory with real world experience, tailored to the level of your students. Stock-Trak is most effective when it is used to complement your lectures.
For example, many professors of introductory investments and finance courses have the students make trades in each security discussed in class (in order to avoid confusing the students, many professors also limit the securities traded to those covered in class). Students of an introductory class might be given an assignment like this:
One professor distributes a new scenario every two weeks and then grades the students on how they adjust their portfolio. Past scenarios have included dropping interest rates, high inflation, war breaking out in the Persian Gulf, or large gains in the leading indicators.
The infamous dart board has historically been a very effective tool for demonstrating portfolio theory and it can easily be combined with the Stock-Trak experience.
Professors who have used this approach typically paste a list of securities on the wall (the dart board) and then throw darts to select a portfolio. Using one of the two free accounts each professor receives, the dart board account can be tracked throughout the trading period. Students can compare their results to the "random" portfolio and see the principles of portfolio theory in action. As an incentive for the student to take an active interest in his or her portfolio, points can be given on the final for doing better than the dart board account or the S&P 500. Some professors even take a few points away for doing worse than the S&P 500.
The important thing to remember, however, is that the emphasis should be on education and not portfolio return. Stock-Trak is a tool for exposing students to the stock market. You want the students to care about what they are doing, but don't make them so concerned about the return on their portfolios that they miss out on the educational experience.
